Thanks to the monumental success of Riverdance and his following projects, Flatley has earned levels of fame through Irish dancing that many thought would never be possible. The American-Irish performer, who is battling cancer at the momenthas enjoyed a highly successful career over the decades.
From international tours to even stepping into the world of movie-making, Flatley has certainly had quite the journey. But how did he go from the young dancer he once was to the household name he is today? His trajectory has been nothing short of impressive. His Irish mother, Eilish, was a talented dancer. Her mother, Flatley's grandmother, was a champion Irish dancer. Although Irish dancing seemed to be the clear road for Michael Flatley, he actually had a brief stint as an amateur boxer and even considered going professional. But ultimately, he stuck with dancing and became a hugely recognizable name with it.
His early career consisted of many exciting roles and Flatley managed to get his face and his name out there. He toured with the likes of The Chieftains and Green Fields of America, but it would be his next project that would ultimately launch him to superstardom. Flatley had been attracting attention for his immense dancing talent and inhe was asked to help compose the halftime show for the Eurovision Song Contestwhich was being held in Dublin that year.
Riverdance took the world by storm after its first performance on April 30, in Ireland. Following the massive hype about the performance, it was then developed into a full-length show and began touring the world. It wouldn't take long for the show to become worldwide and soon, it started touring Ireland, the UK, the US, and the world.
