What really got my attention though was your statement, that you were free to create anything you like. Yeah, definitely. This is the most deep and most expressive we have ever gone. Of course I was, but this has been so reinvigorating and so life changing in a way. How do you come up with the songs and put them down to paper. Do you contribute to the music writing process?

Yeah, we all do. We are a small band now, we are a three piece.

So we are all creating together very quickly and once we decided to go with this album, the songs rolled out very quickly. It can start off with a guitar melody or a keyboard melody or a vocal melody but we build it together. A huge part of the writing does come from Robin with his guitar. People love labels and categories as you know very well.

So, in what genre your music belongs? This is really the wrong question for me, because I hate labels. Or they expect what are they going to hear before the even listen to it. So it narrows their mind even before they heard the music. Before that, we were trying to evolve and become better as song writers. You could still, from the first album up until the one before this one, you could still very easily, from an outside perspective, put us in a bracket or subgenre quite easy.

The two new songs ended up being; the more radio friendly "Burn This City" and the more aggressive-sounding "Rebellion in Nightmareland," even an alternate radio mix of "Burn This City" in which some of Richard Sjunnesson's harsh vocals are removed. During the recording session of "Burn This City" and "Rebellion in Nightmareland" several other tracks were made, but never recorded.

All the songs were in their final stage but were thrown away as "Burn This City" and "Rebellion in Nightmareland" were the two tracks chosen for the EP. The tracks were completely scrapped when the band decided to only have new tracks besides "Burn This City" on We Rule the Night. Contents move to sidebar hide. Article Talk. Read Edit View history.

Sonic Syndicate's style has changed radically over the years. Fallen Angels' demos contained no clean vocals at all and had a similar sound to early melodic death metal bands such as Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. Eden Fire featured clean vocals on some tracks as well as some occasional female vocals from bass player Karin Axelsson. Their second album Only Inhuman had many new additions to the band's sound.

Clean vocals were now a full-time feature by this point, the band had two vocalists rather than one and the band began to include metalcore elements into their music. It also included the band's first recorded ballad "Enclave". Love and Other Disasters featured less "flashy" synths mostly strings and mostly slower songs than before and was commercially more successful than Only Inhuman and Eden Fire.

The title track was radio friendly with mostly clean vocals and synthesizers while the song "Rebellion In Nightmareland" had a somewhat similar sound to Eden Fire and Only Inhuman being very aggressive in dynamic and having both clean vocals and screams lead together. Their fourth album We Rule the Night is a very soft album compared to all their prior releases, as it includes their sound of metalcore but also incorporates new ones to their style such as pop rock and nu metal.

There is also a fair use of acoustic guitars as well as mainstream-influenced synthesizers.
