She graduated in with a degree in Fine Art. Together with two friends, she moved to Nottingham Road, in the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal, to take up work in a bronze casting foundry.

There she crossed paths with the well-respected designer Neville Trickett, who introduced her to the botanical photography of Karl Blossfeldt This was a pivotal encounter which sparked an evolution in her journey with clay. Inspired by the botanical photographs of Karl Blossfeldt she sculpts flowers of strange and poetic beauty. She plays with scale and her works always exceed the dimensions of her botanical inspirations.

Working from an isolated farm in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands of South Africa, this young woman is inspired by the nature which surrounds her that is very specific to the region. Like many South African artists, despite the exposure of her work abroad, she has never left South Africa and her work represents a uniquely South African view of the world around her.

Dahl demonstrated an early love for clay and hand-coiling at university and found a visual impulse in botanical photography from the early 20th century. Working increasingly with her own natural environment, pulling images from her garden, her white and black clayworks are large, heavy, but defy themselves with their appearance of lightness.

Dahl pursues a perfect, essential form, outside of time and place.
